June 3, 2017: Middle River Cleanup
The Madison County River Alliance is hosting the annual Middle River Cleanup Project on June 3rd. This year we will be focusing our efforts on the stretch of Middle River between Middle River Forest Park (Adair County) and the Schildberg Access (Madison County).
We will be meeting at Middle River Park south of Winterset at 8:00 am for breakfast, introductions, and river safety information. A bus will depart for Middle River Forest Park at 8:45 am. The cleanup will begin at 9:45 am and run until approximately 4 pm. Bring your own lunch to eat on a sandbar around the halfway point.
After the cleanup we will be meeting at Middle River Park (Winterset) for an evening meal and entertainment. The River Alliance will be providing Burgers & Brats with sides, dessert, and non-alcoholic beverages. You may bring your own adult beverage of choice.
To register, fill out a registration form and return to the conservation board by mailing the form to P.O. Box 129, Winterset, IA 50273 or by e-mailing a copy of the form to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Canoes will be awarded in a first come, first served manor in the order the registration forms are received.
Participants are welcome to bring their own canoes/kayaks for this event.
This event is rain or shine and will only be cancelled if there are dangerous water levels.
June 9-10, 2017: Clanton Creek Overnight Backpacking Trip
Join us for an introductory level overnight backpacking trip at Clanton Creek on Friday, June 9th. We will hike approximately 2 miles in to Clanton Creek where we will set up camp at one of the primitive camping sites.
The camping trip will depart from a designated meeting spot around 5:30 pm on June 9th. Our naturalist will lead the hike into Clanton Creek where there will be an evening meal and campfire under the full moon. Saturday morning we will plan to hike out of the area after breakfast and be back to our cars before noon.
This trip is open to people of all backpacking skill levels and will include a pre-trip informational session on Monday, June 5 at 6:30 pm in the Pammel Park Nature Center. This informational session will cover what to pack for the overnight, tips on packing a backpack, clothing recommendations, and how to fit your backpack.
Registration fee is $15/person and includes the guided hike and campout, friday night campfire meal, and simple breakfast provisions. A limited number of backpacks will be available for use during the event. Backpack rental will be $15/backpack and they will be available for pickup during the Monday night pre-trip session.

July 14-15, 2017: Women in the Outdoors Weekend
Madison County Conservation is Partnering with the National Wild Turkey Federation to present the 2nd Annual Women in the Outdoors Weekend at Pammel State Park.
The weekend will feature hands on learning sessions featuring valuable outdoor skills including archery, shotgun and handgun safety and firing, canoeing, wilderness first aid, fly tying, hiking and more. Participants may choose which activities they would like to try during the breakout sessions.
Registration fee for the weekend is $95 which includes a Friday night meal by the Madison County Cattlemen, friday night presentations by an ISU Wildlife Specialist and the Madison County Historical society, Breakfast and a Lunch and Learn Dutch Oven meal on Saturday, all breakout instructional sessions, and a one year membership to NWTF.
